Preston North End 1 – 2 Arsenal as Ramsey and Giroud second half strikes win it for Arsenal, Olivier Giroud hits late winner to break Preston hearts.
After a difficult december and a underwhelming start to new year, Arsenal visited Deepdale as they took Preston North End in the FA Cup third round tie on Saturday and they started on a back foot yet again going behind thanks to a goal from Callum Robinson in just 7th minute of the game. Arsenal failed to produce their usual standard of football but they did got back in the game after the break when Aaron Ramsey scored just after the half time to make it 1-1.
Arsenal survive scare to reach round four as Robinson gives Championship side the lead then Ramsey drives in equaliser after half-time and Giroud strikes late from clever Perez backheel which made Wenger never lost a third-round tie.
The first half was all about Preston North End, but after the interval Arsenal started so brightly. The first goal by Aaron Ramsey was a great strike and then, late on, Olivier Giroud hit the winner goal. The Gunners deserved it based on that second half alone.
Arsenal cling on and after one hell of a fight they have stumbled through to the next round of the FA Cup. Remarkable stuff and yet another comeback for Arsenal, but Preston gave a great account of themselves and really don’t deserve to go out, but they didn’t follow up their first half display with anything resembling it after the break, and they were made to pay.
