Registration For The Nigerian National ID Card, NIMC Pre Enrolment and Registration can be done on Portal and Center.

The NIMC Act 2007 provides for the establishment of the NIMC, its functions, powers, establishment of the National Identity Database, assignment and use of General Multi-purpose cards, and the National Identification Number (NIN). The Act also provides the Commission with powers to make regulations connected with its functions. The NIMC Act 2007 provides the repeal of the law that created the former Department of National Civic Registration (DNCR) and the transfer of its assets and liabilities to the NIMC.

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) was established in 2007 to provide an assured identity system in Nigeria. The commission became operational sometime in 2012 and Nigerians have been enrolled and many more are yet to be enrolled in the National Identity System.

The NIMC centers are located in various locations across Nigeria and Registration Can be done by at the Registration center or the NIMC Portal, However above all speculations the National Identity Number became mandatory on the 16th of January, 2015 for purposes such as Opening and Registration of Account for example; Bank, Government Organization. NGOs and other purposes.

Enrol Once Only, Enrolment for the NIN is Once in a Lifetime. Once you enrol and your National Identification Number (NIN) is presented to you, the Automated Biometric Information System (ABIS) will store all your information supplied and any attempt to enrol again by the same person will be detected and this a punishable offence. Therefore, enrol once and be identified for life.

The enrollment process can be done in (2) two ways either the step (A) or (B) below although step (B) brings you back to step (A) but I suggest you go straight ahead with step (A), to start your enrollment process. Pre Enrolment and Registration Of The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC);

(B). National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) Portal.

  1. Visit the nearest NIMC errollment center, Locate all NIMC enrolment centres Nationwide at nimc.gov.ng/nimc-enrolment-centres/

  2. Registration Is Free of Charge, and everything else is done at the NIMC errollment center.

(B). Pre Enrolment and Registration Of The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) Portal.

To Pre-Enroll for NIN start the NIN enrollment process, by following the steps, below:

  1. Visit the NIMC Pre-enrollment Portal at ninenrol.gov.ng/loginForm.tpl.html.php to create an account.
  2. Log into the portal to commence your pre-enrollment process.

  3. NIMC pre-enrollment process, Fill in the provided spaces with the required information. The required information would be in categories such as;

  1. Personal Details.
  2. Address Information.
  3. Parent Data.
  4. Next of Kin Information.
  5. Other Documents.
  6. Disabilities and Physical features.

Then Save the supplied information.

  1. Generate a 2D barcode that encrypts your data. Print out the generated 2D barcode and take the 2D barcode to the nearest NIMC center available in your area.

Note: At the center you would be required to provide at least 2 (two) of these self identifying materials;

  1. Valid Identity Card (inform of 2D barcode).
  2. Driver’s License.
  3. Birth Certificate.
  4. House Allocation.
  5. NEPA Bills.

What Happens At The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) eID Card Registration Center In Nigeria
At the NIMC center, they would;

  1. Measure your Height.
  2. Collect The 2D barcode use it to retrieve your information from the database if you have one but if you don’t they would generate one for you.

  3. NIMC will scan any of the valid identifying credentials you brought.

  1. Valid Identity Card (inform of 2D barcode).
  2. Driver’s License.
  3. Birth Certificate.
  4. House Allocation.
  5. NEPA Bills.
  1. Capture A Photo Passport of your face and capture your finger prints biometrics.

  2. You would sign your authorising signature on a Digital Software.

  3. A transaction slip will be issued to you as an acknowledgment of your enrollment.

  4. You will also be given a NIN and Temporary National ID card.

  5. You would be notified by NIMC to return to your registration center for Original eID Card collection.

Please Note:

  1. The National Identification Number (NIN) is FREE! eID Card is FREE!!!

  2. It is SAFER to do Online Pre- enrolment yourself using Personal Computers, Internet enabled telephones and other devices.

  3. Beware of Fraudsters posing as National Identity Management Commission (NIMC)  Agents or Staff.

  4. Collection of NIN and Card can ONLY be done at NIMC Enrolment Centres nationwide.
