The Children’s Day In Nigeria is on the May 27 of each year and it is a Holiday Celebration of all Children in Nigeria.
The International children’s Day is a day set aside by the United Nations to celebrate and honour children across the world.
The Day was created as part of the efforts of the United Nation to protect children from long working hours and dangerous situations in the society, as well as to give every child the opportunity to acquire formal education.
First celebrated in Geneva by the International Union of Child Welfare in 1953, the United Nations General assembly made the children’s day a global affair when it observed the Universal children’s Day in 1954, to mark the anniversary of the adoption of Declaration of the Child’s Rights.
The United Nations however, recommended that each country should see aside a day every year to celebrate children in its domain; hence the children’s Day is celebrated on the 27th of May, every year in Nigeria.
The theme for this year’s celebration in Nigeria is “Protect the rights of the child in the face of violence and insecurity: End child marriage”.
