Newcastle United 5 – 1 Tottenham Hotspur as Georginio Wijnaldum ended the game with 11 league goals in his debut season for Newcastle as 10-man Newcastle bid farewell to the Premier League with an extraordinary win over Tottenham, who finished third.
Both Sissoko and Townsend had chances to put the game to bed for the 10 men as Newcastle turned on the style in the second half.
Sissoko should have then scored another when Townsend slipped him in but Lloris came out to block a one on one. With five minutes left Townsend fired a shot off the post with the ball then rolling to Janmaat who crossed for sub Rolando Aarons to lash the ball home.
Just seconds after the restart Aarons played the ball to Janmaat who kept his composure before rolling it past the crestfallen French keeper. And so Newcastle signed out of the Premier League with a 5-1 win. One thing is clear, United fans will be back for more if the Magpies can tie down Benitez in the next week soon.
