Globacom Claims Over 5M+ Subscribers Outside Nigeria in Africa

Globacom Claims Over 5,000,000+ (over five million) Subscribers Outside Nigeria in Africa, Globacom has revealed plans of having new landing stations for its 9,800 km long fibre optic cable system accross Africa, It looks like Glo is #1 outside Nigeria and in other African countries.

The firm said the planned landing stations would berth in Ivory Coast; Gambia and Senegal for wider bandwidth connectivity, which will ensure West Africa is connected to Europe, United Kingdom and the rest of the world.

The telecommunications firm, which disclosed this on Monday in Lagos, during the visit of the Minister of Communications, Adebayo Shittu, informed that it has been able to garner five million subscribers outside its Nigerian operation.

Regional Manager, Marketing, Ashok Israni, who made the disclosures, informed that aside servicing 34 million subscribers in Nigeria, it now has two million subscribers in the Republic of Benin and three million customers in Ghana, which has five operators in the market.

Israni said Globacom achieved this feat between 2008, when it started operations in Benin, 2012 in Ghana and now.

In Nigeria, the firm reiterated that it has pioneered several revolutions and innovations including the per second billing system when it started operations in 2003, the crash of Subscribers Identification Module (SIM) cards price from N20,000 to N1.

Currently, Israni said the firm, which two years ago, replaced all its equipment to improve services and boost the drive towards broadband penetration in the country, said over 5000 enterprises in Nigeria currently relies on Globacom for data services.

The firm stressed thatbecause of the uniqueness of Glo 1, it added about 3.2 million data subscribers last quarter, with the hope to double it before the end of this quarter.

Israni, who revealed that earlier this year, the firm partnered Vodafone and Orange Telecoms to boost innovations in Nigeria and Africa as a whole, said that Globacom targets ensuring more Nigerians, especially the masses have access to affordable data services.
