Multiple Killings Recorded in Rivers as Gov. Wike Bans Okada Operations In 4 LGA’s

The Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has banned the operation of commercial motorcyclists, popularly called Okada between 5pm and 8am daily in four local government areas of the state for security reasons.

A statement by the Special Assistant to the Governor on Electronic Media, Simeon Nwakaudu, says the ban takes effect from Sunday, 14th February, 2016.

The four local government areas affected by the directive are; Abua/Odual, Ahoada East, Ahoada West and Ogba/ Egbema /Ndoni (ONELGA).

The statement says that,“the stipulated ban on the operation of‘Okada’in these local government areas is indefinite.

“Governor Wike has directed security agencies to enforce the ban.

“The governor regrets any inconveniences the ban will cause residents, businesses and commercial motorcyclists in these local government areas,”the statement reads.

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, however, called on all stakeholders in the mentioned local government areas to cooperate with the state government and security agencies to improve the security situation in their communities.

As earlier reported that ten people were killed in Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State in a suspected cult clash.

The number of deaths later rose to 23 with the Rivers state Police Command also confirming the arrest of 2 persons in relation to the attacks that left two people beheaded.

The cult clashes spiraled into Ahaoda-East and West of the state with the report of the razing of the home of a Senior Police officer attached to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad.

Similar reports of cult clashes have also emerged from Abua/Odual Local government area including Asari-Toru and Ikwerre Local government areas of Rivers state.
