RD Congo have just emerged winners of the African Nations Championship 2016 for a second time. The Congolese team beat their West African counterparts Mali, 3-0 to lift the title for the second time in its 8-year history.
Elia Meschack put the Congolese ahead in the 28th minute with an assist from Jonathan Bolingi. Meschack increased the tally in the 62nd minute with the help of Yannick Bangala.
Bolingi got a goal of his own in the 73rd minute with help from Lomalisa Mutambala to complete the routing of the Malians.
In the second match of the day, the losers’ final between West African teams Guinea and Cote d’Ivoire, the latter won 2-1 to finish up in the third position and pick the bronze.
Mohammed Youla claimed the first goal for Cote d’Ivoire via an own goal from a Guinean player in the 33rd minute and Gbagnon Badie picked the second just two minutes after to put the Ivorians 2-0 up.
Guinea’s Aboubacar Leo Camara pulled a consolatory goal back for his team at the 86th minute to end the game 2-1 in favour Cote d’Ivoire.
