Zinedine Zidane Becomes the Official Manager of Real Madrid Football Club, The Legendary French player Zinedine Zidane takes the reins of one of football’s most-popular clubs known as Real Madrid FC.
After several poor showings, Real Madrid replaced first-year manager Rafael Benítez with Zinedine Zidane. One of football’s (soccer’s) best-ever midfielders, Zidane had led France to victory at the 1998 World Cupand, in club play, helped Juventusand Real Madrid win various titles. He is also known for the ignoble end to his career, when he was ejected during the final of the 2006 World Cup—which France lost to Italy—after head-butting an opponent.
Although Zidane has little coaching experience—he was manager of Real Madrid’s B team before being promoted—hopes are high that his success as a player will translate to wins behind the bench. If not, impatient fans and management might lead to an early exit for Zidane, who is Real Madrid’s ninth manager in 10 years.
