A former governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State, Adegbola Dominic, on Wednesday said the trial of Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, before the Code of Conduct Tribunal over alleged false declaration of assets has political undertone.
He however advised the former Kwara state governor to answer the charges against him and shame those who may be plotting his downfall politically.
Dominic also said it is premature calling for the senate president when he has not been found guilty of the charges.
“I believe the trail has political colouration. Even Saraki himself had said that if he has not been the Senate president, the question of him being arraigned at this time would not have occurred. I agree with him on that”.
“Nevertheless, even though it is politically motivated, he should answer the charges leveled against him. I don’t believe in those saying ‘why should the charges be leveled against him now that he has fallen out with his party?’ while I am not holding brief for him or condemning him, I believe if he is called upon to answer charges on his assets declaration, he should be able to defend himself”.
“Some people are already asking him to resign. Why should he resign? He is not guilty yet. If at the end of the day, he is guilty of the charges, then the issue of his resignation can be considered and I believe as a man of honour, he will resign.
But as at today, he has said he is not guilty. It is left for his accusers to prove that he is guilty” he said.
