The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Bayelsa State has described the APC governorship primaries as a show of shame and also condemned the mayhem, bloodletting and the disruption of the existing peace and security in some parts of the State capital, Yenagoa.
The party also described the APC as a bunch of desperate and power hungry individuals who do not have anything to offer Bayelsans, but are only craving for power to return the state to its dark days.
According to State Secretary, PDP, Keku Godspower, what happened at the Samson Siasia Sports Complex, was a manifestation of the true make-up and the real intent of the persons.
The statement insisted that APC would plunge Bayelsa back to the dark days of cultism, militancy and lawlessness as well as fritter away the resources of the State.
The party wondered why a party primary, which is purely an internal matter that ought to be conducted under a peaceful and brotherly atmosphere, being greeted by widespread protests, bloody scenes, with people being maimed and even properties being destroyed in the process.
“This has allayed the fears we have been expressing all the while, that these people do not mean well for Bayelsans and their mission is to reintroduce cultism, truncate the existing peace and security in the State. Allow militancy to flourish and instill fear in the minds of the people.
Godpower said the Restoration Government has brought Bayelsa out of the woods and it remains the best option for the people of the State, so that we can consolidate on the gains already made”
Keku pointed out that, the Restoration administration of the Countryman Governor came with a clear mandate and vision to put Bayelsa back on the right footing,
“We give another opportunity to consolidate on these gains, especially in the area of peace and security, education, infrastructure and manpower development”
Meanwhile, over 250 super delegates of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, Bayelsa state has formally endorsed Governor Seriake Dickson as a sole candidate ahead of Sept 24 governorship primaries
The super delegates made the endorsement at a meeting and dinner at the Chairman of the Restoration Campaign Advisory Council and former Governor of the state, Chief Diepreye Alamieseyesgha
The delegates which comprised of political office holders, members of the state Executive council, members of the state House of Assembly, State working committee, and the leadership of the local government councils, predicated their support of the Governor on his impressive performance in office.
Formal motion of endorsements was moved by former State Secretary of the party Captain Mark Opubiri rtd, and seconded by the Vice Chairman of the Southern Ijaw Local Government, Hon. Mrs Lovina Gboluseri.
Speaking at the event, Chief Alamieyeseigha said, the successful emergence of the Governor as the sole candidate of the PDP, affords the party the opportunity to carry out effective campaigns in all the nooks and crannies of the state without any distraction.
Alamieyeseigha reiterated his call to see the forthcoming governorship election as a battle to protect the integrity of the Ijaw nation and therefore urged PDP faithfuls not to leave any stone unturned as they embark on the issue-based campaign activities of the party.
Earlier, Governor Dickson expressed appreciation to the leadership and delegates of the party for the honour done him and pledged submissiveness to the interest and ideals of the PDP at all times.
He acknowledged that all the achievements of the restoration government would not have been possible, without the support and cooperation of the party and well meaning people of the state.
Dickson, called on the members of the PDP to remain steadfast in their support and work to achieve a landslide victory in the December 5th election to further demonstrate the dominant position the party enjoys in the state.
The Governor also used the opportunity to call on those, who he noted were deceived by the opposition, All Progressives Congress, APC to defect, to return back to the PDP.
“The other side (APC) has nothing for any of you. So don’t allow yourselves to be deceived again. Look at how they have finished the political careers of some of our friends, who were members of this great party.
“They went to their houses, deceived them by promising to give them the Governorship ticket.”
In a statement by the Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Markson Iworiso, Ickson said, “They played them 419 to collect their money, which they got from the PDP. And now, the same people have turned around to collect the Governorship ticket they promised our friends”
“But our leaders are saying that our umbrella is big enough to cover them again. The party is ready to receive them back as prodigal sons especially those of them that will realize themselves and return early.”
Dickson said, “for those of you who have been faithful and loyal, my advice to you is for you to remain steadfast in your support. Keep the flag flying and don’t be carried away by their blackmail. Elections are won and lost in your units and wards and not by security forces that will be deployed by the federal government and i know that as Ijaw people, we will not be intimidated by anybody.”
